Trauma/PTSD Recovery

Life is anything but normal.

The event happened so long ago, but you’ve started having nightmares again. You thought that was behind you – thought you were better. “Will it always be this way?”

You know worse things have happened to other people and don’t understand why you can’t get past it.

“I didn’t have it that bad.”

You feel “on edge” all the time. You’re avoiding people and places you used to enjoy. Everything and everyone feels like “too much,” over-stimulating.

“I want to feel normal again – like I can relax with other people and enjoy my life.”

Connection with life is lost.

You’re exhausted and lash out at friends and loved ones.

Lacking connection with others causes you to feel more isolated, alone, and hopeless.

“Can anyone help me?”

Therapy didn’t help last time.

You’ve previously tried therapy, but it only worked for a short time.

The mindfulness meditation didn’t help either – it was more activating.

Those things help some people who’ve experienced trauma.

“Therapy doesn’t seem to help. What’s wrong with me?”

Everyone responds differently to trauma.

Recovering from a traumatic experience is going to be different for everyone.

Not every trauma leads to developing PTSD, but the recovery process is similar. Regardless, some things are essential for healing from the event.

While working with me, I will create an environment where you…

  • feel safe
  • experience the work as collaborative
  • have choices in what occurs in session
  • feel empowered to use your strengths
  • experience me as trustworthy

Feeling normal again requires resolution.

Unresolved trauma leads to being stuck in overdrive, with your foot simultaneously stomping on the brake.

Being in overdrive or “on alert” all the time is exhausting. It is a biological imperative for your nervous system and whole being to have time to rest – to feel safe.

Temporary fixes of (fill in the blank) over-eating, drinking/drugging, working, worrying, exercising, sleeping – all stop working, eventually. Maybe your health, relationships, work, or all of it suffers.

Something must give.

Regain feeling normal and connected.

Relief is possible!

It’s essential to take an integrated approach to treat trauma and PTSD.

We’ll work closely to help you learn to manage your symptoms and self-regulate your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations as you work with the traumatic event.
